#4: a compliment

i just got the sweetest compliment from a customer!
I took a week off from my life and went to NY

apparently my fill-in for last week wasn't up to par...
customer: Yay! Its you! I'm so glad you're back!
me: did you miss me?!
customer: yes, the girl who made my chai tea last week was horrible!
it was the worst chai ever!

i thought it was so nice that the lady missed me
& felt bad that her chai was horrible
so i made her a free one!
(we're allowed to do that by the way...
if you spill your drink or its not good)

Barista Specials
if you've been to the coffee shop lately you might have noticed that theres a change in specials. Aside from the change of season, theres also a change in customer preferences. yes, you go can go starbucks and "customize" your coffee but at our shop we'll make whatever you want to try. For instance, one of our regulars comes in and gets a coffee made with cinnamon & toffee nut. Now we have a "Hot Austin" latte. We also have "Jessi tea" which is sweet tea with your choice of fruit flavor. One of the girls I work with & I came up with a "super fall chai" its delicious :)

what are some flavors you like? or would like to experiment with?

like the title of the blog says,
this will be about the life of a barista.
its a strange life.

I work in a pretty well known coffee house
in downtown West Chester.
I also work on campus serving coffee.
i work tues/thurs 3 to 8:30
& sat from 3 to midnight.

we aren't like starbucks,
where you come in and order burnt coffee & over pay for it.
we're laid back & we serve the best tasting & priced coffee for miles.
we're the local hangout. the place to meet friends.
listen to music. experience the culture.
we're basically a legend.

& as such, we get a lot of strange people coming through..

my shift today started simple.
working 3 to midnight every saturday.
around 4 a girl comes in with a big box of food,
puts it on the counter and leaves.
--the box contains a hearty portion of home fries
& 8 pieces of bread (white, wheat, cinnamon raisin, pumpernickel, etc).

two weeks ago
a stranger came in & gave me a unicycle
for my birthday.
...a unicycle.

friday afternoon
i told my friend mike snow that if he ate a bee
i'd give him a free iced coffee.
he pulled the stinger off & ate it.
i recorded it with my phone :)
i'll post it as soon as i can.
